Video Troubleshooting

All of the video posted on this site is in the MP4 (.mp4) format. MPEG-4 is an International Standards Organization (ISO) specification that covers many aspects of multimedia presentation including compression, authoring and delivery.

MP4 is an open format, so anyone can write software that plays it, and there are a lot of third party MP4 players. However, Microsoft has decided to not support this open standard with Windows Media Player.

If you are running Windows, the easiest thing to do to view the videos is to install the latest version of Quicktime on your Windows machine. There are other plugins that enable Windows Media Player to play mp4 files and you can load one of these players if this is your preference from a list of them at download.com. Our recommendation is to use the Quicktime Player for mp4 files. If you decide to install a different plug-in other than Quicktime, right click on on of your files and choose "Open with..." Windows will bring up a list of all your applications. Find Windows Media Player in the list, and before you click OK, check the box that says something like "Always use this program to open files of this type." After that, Windows should associate MP4 files with Windows Media Player, and you should be all set.

MAC USERS: If you are having problems, get version 6 or later of Quicktime.
